Every few years I suffer through a garage sale. I hate clutter and with 3 kids clutter just happens so it’s essential that we are constantly working on clearing out things that we no longer need. Last weekend we had our yearly garage sale. Every year, I swear I will never do it again. I end up sitting out in the sun for a good 5-6 hours, end the day sunburned and tired and barely make enough to make it worth my time. I’ve had great luck reselling stuff we no longer need on Craigslist but for stuff like clothes, I generally have to resort to a garage sale. I’m finally learning that there is a better option. I recently heard about a great event called Trunk Treasures that is basically a high-end consignment sale. Of course, I would hear about this AFTER my garage sale. I may have to finish sorting through my house to get rid of the rest of the clutter.
Trunk Treasures is held in the spring and fall. This spring the sale will run from May 2-5 at the San Diego Swiss Park – Swiss Club (just off the Main Street exit of the 5 in Chula Vista at 2001 Main Street). For only a $7 consignment fee, you can earn money on any baby or kids clothes, toys, or furniture that’s still in great condition (and you don’t have to mess with all the hassle of a garage sale – lesson learned). You keep 60% of the proceeds from the sale of your items and what remains is donated to a very worth local cause. You CAN pick up your unsold items if you want to, but honestly, who wants to do that.

T.G.I. Friday’s is a favorite in our family because they’ve got such a great variety so everyone can find something that they like. Right now they have a great coupon out that will let you buy one entree and get one free with the purchase of two beverages. This would make a great frugal date night. This is good through March 31st but I’d print it now to make sure you have it on hand when you need it.

My kids love going out for frozen yogurt because they can pick whatever toppings and flavors they want and because you purchase the yogurt based on weight, you can make it a frugal treat by only getting the perfect sized treat. FroYo has a great Groupon going on today that is good for $6 worth of frozen yogurt for only $3. I usually have some credit at Groupon from referring a friend so this was free for us. You can’t beat that! This is good for 2 North County San Diego locations (San Marcos and Oceanside).

I absolutely refuse to pay full price for a movie ticket. For the price of two tickets I could buy the movie when it comes out. Fortunately there are usually some great deals on movie tickets if you take the time to look for them. Living Social has a great deal for 2 Fandango movie tickets for only $9. That’s a great way to have a frugal date night! This deal will go for today only so hurry and grab your tickets so you have them for your next night out at the movie theatre.

If you are anywhere near Pasadena, stop by and check out the Kidspace Children’s Museum. Admission is free tonight from 4:00 pm t0 8:00 pm. My kids had the chance to check out Kidspace while my husband and I attended the Lexus Family Safety Camp last year and while I was too busy learning how to take the keys out of the ignition while in a moving car, my kids had a blast with the museum staff. They couldn’t stop talking about all the cool things they got to do.
