SoCal Events

Every few years I suffer through a garage sale. I hate clutter and with 3 kids clutter just happens so it’s essential that we are constantly working on clearing out things that we no longer need. Last weekend we had our yearly garage sale. Every year, I swear I will never do it again. I end up sitting out in the sun for a good 5-6 hours, end the day sunburned and tired and barely make enough to make it worth my time. I’ve had great luck reselling stuff we no longer need on Craigslist but for stuff like clothes, I generally have to resort to a garage sale. I’m finally learning that there is a better option. I recently heard about a great event called Trunk Treasures that is basically a high-end consignment sale. Of course, I would hear about this AFTER my garage sale. I may have to finish sorting through my house to get rid of the rest of the clutter.

Trunk Treasures is held in the spring and fall. This spring the sale will run from May 2-5 at the San Diego Swiss Park – Swiss Club (just off the Main Street exit of the 5 in Chula Vista at 2001 Main Street). For only a $7 consignment fee, you can earn money on any baby or kids clothes, toys, or furniture that’s still in great condition (and you don’t have to mess with all the hassle of a garage sale – lesson learned). You keep 60% of the proceeds from the sale of your items and what remains is donated to a very worth local cause. You CAN pick up your unsold items if you want to, but honestly, who wants to do that.

You can get details about the event on the Trunk Treasures Website or follow Trunk Treasures on Facebook or Twitter.

In accordance with the FTC guidelines, this is a compensated post however all opinions are my own.

If you are anywhere near Pasadena, stop by and check out the Kidspace Children’s Museum. Admission is free tonight from 4:00 pm t0 8:00 pm. My kids had the chance to check out Kidspace while my husband and I attended the Lexus Family Safety Camp last year and while I was too busy learning how to take the keys out of the ignition while in a moving car, my kids had a blast with the museum staff. They couldn’t stop talking about all the cool things they got to do.

Kidspace is free the first Tuesday of every month thanks to a grant by the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission and the City of Pasadena Cultural Affairs Division. Click here for more details.

$9.99 Tickets to Legoland Through Christmas

by Rachel on December 23, 2010

My kids are huge Lego fans. They actually prefer Legoland to Disneyland most of the time. If you want to enjoy Legoland for a seriously discounted price while the kids are out of school, you can buy Legoland passes for only $9.99 per person from now until Christmas – which means you’d have to go tomorrow. This is a great deal though and Legoland at Christmas time is really fun because they have a giant Lego Christmas Tree and hold a tree lighting ceremony every night.

You can buy up to 6 tickets at that price and they must be used by 12/25.

Thanks to The Carlsbad Patch for sharing such a great deal!

Knott’s Berry Farm is offering free theme park admission with a $15 donation to Toys for Tots. My family and I took advantage of this last year and we were all so impressed with the holiday shows and events at the park. They put on a Charlie Brown’s Christmas show and it was a really refreshing change from some of the other holiday events we had attended because they actually read parts of the Christmas story just as they do in the movie.

My kids really enjoyed all the rides and it was a fun day for the whole family. The wording is a bit screwy on their website. It says you can bring a toy valued at $15 or more and then receive a voucher that lets you buy an admission ticket for $15 or buy a $15 toy at the park. An easier option is simply to pay a $15 online donation and print your ticket at home. This is only good through December 19th so you’ll want to fit it into your schedule soon if you’d like to take advantage of this deal.

The San Diego Zoo has a great live holiday show going on this weekend (November 20-21). The Fisher-Price Little People costumed characters will be singing and dancing in a brand new live musical show.

There are two shows daily, at 1:00 and 4:00 pm (40 minute show) and the show is free with zoo admission. The show is designed for children ages 6 and under, but my 7 year old is just as excited about it as my younger kids. Little People are a long time favorite in our house and we’re excited to see what the show is all about.

Christmas on the Farm at Bates Nut Farm

by Rachel on November 5, 2010

I’ve heard great things about the Bates Nut Farm but we haven’t made our way over there yet. They have some fun things coming up for the holidays that you won’t want to miss. This weekend, November 6-7th they are holding “Christmas on the Farm”.

This sounds like it would be a great family event! There will be arts and crafts, a pancake breakfast, country BBQ, kettle corn, and what I’m sure will by my family’s favorite – a classic car show.

For more details visit Bates Nut Farm.

Thanks San Diego Deals and Steals!

Shopping isn’t generally something I enjoy, but I love bargain shopping and can’t pass up a great deal. Tonight, November 1 from 5pm-9pm at the Carlsbad Premium Outlets you can “Shop under the Stars” and support some great causes while getting a great deal for yourself.

Tickets are $30 in advance or $40 at the door. I’m not sure if it’s too late to get advanced tickets or not. 100% of ticket sales benefits these charitable organizations: Casa de Amparo, Labrador Rescuers of San Diego, National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Pacific South Coast Chapter, Boys and Girls Club of Carlsbad, Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary and Simon Youth Foundation.

Each ticket includes complimentary hors’d’eourves, a glass of wine or ‘shoppertini’ , and a complimentary souvenir tote with a gift and exclusive savings from the outlet stores.

For more information, see the Shop Under the Stars brochure.

Stacey, from San Diego Bargain Mama, tells me that this is an event that you don’t want to miss. It’s my first year going so I’m excited to have a fun night out and support some great charities.
